Medical Challenge Case


Case: Suspicion

S: Patient was brought to ER. The woman lay on her bed struggling to breath while a burly looking man sat next to her, holding her hand. Standing near the woman was a whimpering child. The boy’s age is 10 years old. 

O: Woman was very impatient stating “I waited over two hours and I want some service.” The charge nurse states, “I put you in that room exactly 10 minutes ago, so don’t tell me you’ve been waiting for hours.” Fracture of child's radius, significant swelling at the midshaft of the radius and the arm appeared bent at an angle. When asked how this happened, the child silently drew away. The mother says, “I’m taking my son and I’m leaving.”
