Case: Lumps

S: Seven year-old female presents with a lump on her arm. She complains that the lump was painful and hard and has started to turn red. She is not taking any medications and no one at home has been ill recently. No injuries reported and no bites from any insects or animals. Nothing unusual in past month other than getting a kitten two weeks ago. No allergies to cats or dogs. Immunizations are up to date.

O: Swelling noted in right arm where the biceps muscle makes contact with the bone. Slight pain with palpation. Swollen area was about the size of a matchbook. Ultrasound revealed that the swelling was a lymph node. Lab results revealed presence of Bartonella henselae.
